St Lucy’s School will be redeveloped with a $2.6 million grant from the NSW Government.

The grant will go towards a $3.7 million building project at the Wahroonga school for children with special needs. The project will include 8 new specialist classrooms and complimentary facilities to support students and their families.

The project is the first stage of the school’s proposed three-stage redevelopment.

Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens welcomed the NSW Government funding, which was provided under the Building Grants Assistance Scheme.

“We want to make sure all students in our local community get the best education we can provide them,” Mr Henskens said.

“Supporting new facilities like this ensures these students get that top-quality education, and I’m pleased the NSW Government is helping to fund this project.

“This grant to St Lucy’s complements the recently announced provision of 45 new teaching spaces at Killara and Waitara Public Schools and the reduction of $3.2 million in planned maintenance liability at our local public schools.”

Education Minister Rob Stokes said the NSW Government was working hard to deliver the school facilities students needed.

“We want to provide high quality education facilities to all students, regardless of what school they go to, so they can succeed and thrive in the 21st century,” Rob Stokes said.

The BGAS grant at St Lucy’s is part of a $33 million program directed towards independent and Catholic schools with the greatest need, to help them cater for growing enrolments and refurbish or build new facilities.

The grants help schools improve the learning environments for their students, giving schools contemporary facilities that reflect modern learning needs.
