$3.6 Million For New Facilities For St Lucy's School

St Lucy's in Wahroonga Funding Announcement

Students and teachers at St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga will benefit from the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s record investment in education, with the school set to receive a further grant of $3.6 million to help to upgrade its facilities.

This funding supplements the $2.6 million grant from the Government in February 2018 for the first stage of the redevelopment project.

Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens and Education Minister Rob Stokes visited the school today to announce the investment which will contribute to the school’s $9 million upgrade. The project will deliver 24 new classrooms, a covered outdoor learning area, student amenities and a car park.

Mr Henskens said the funding will mean that St Lucy’s School can continue to deliver this much needed upgrade and will result in a cost saving of approximately $850,000 by enabling the School to proceed with stage two as soon as stage one is completed.

“I am delighted the NSW Government is supporting the St Lucy’s community as it almost doubles student numbers by expanding to take high school students,” Mr Henskens said.

Mr Stokes said the investment will be delivered to St Lucy’s through the NSW Government’s Building Grants Assistance Scheme (BGAS), which provides funding to independent and Catholic schools to upgrade their facilities to cater for growing enrolments.

The grants are provided to schools with the greatest need based on strict eligibility guidelines and administered by the Association of Independent Schools NSW and Catholic Schools NSW.

“All students deserve the very best facilities to learn and grow in, no matter what school they go to,” Mr Stokes said.

Mr Stokes said the funding is in addition to the $6 billion investment by the NSW Government over the next four years to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded government schools to support communities across NSW. This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any State Government in Australian history.
