NSW Minister for Women, the Hon Pru Goward and Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens SC MP have today congratulated netball stalwart and volunteer Brenda Williams, announced as 2016 Ku-ring-gai Woman of the Year.

Brenda Williams has given 55 years service to netball and is the Ku-ring-gai Netball Association’s  Patron and longest serving member.

“There is no doubt Brenda is the most deserving recipient of the Ku-ring-gai Woman of the Year award,” Mr Henskens said today while joining Minister Goward in a presentation at Ku-ring-gai Netball Headquarters at South Turramurra.

Members of the Association Committee and Brenda Williams’ family were on hand for today’s presentation.

“No organisation can survive without the selfless quality of people like Brenda,” Mr Henskens added.

Ms Goward said there were countless outstanding women in NSW, and the Local Woman of the Year awards are a chance for the NSW Government and the community to officially recognise the phenomenal contribution they make.

“It is the hard and often thankless work of women like Brenda that make not out our communities great places to live, but embodies the Australia spirit of giving back,” Ms Goward said.

Brenda Williams has served as a coach, umpire, umpire’s convenor, vice president, treasurer, mentor and first patron of the organisation she has been an integral part of since Ku-ring-gai Netball club (later association) began in 1969.

Today KNA is considered one of the leading association’s on the North Shore with around 4000 members from 18 registered clubs.

“I feeI very honoured  to have even been considered for the Ku-ring-gai Woman of the Year Award,” Ms Williams said today.

“On hearing I had been selected I was a bundle of mixed emotions. It is an incredible feeling”.

”The rewards netball has given me are tenfold. I have met some wonderful people over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the netball family,” she said.
