This year’s Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Doorknock will take place on 27 and 28 May and the students at Ravenswood School for Girls played their part in raising awareness of the Doorknock in the School community by hosting Big Red Day on 17 May.

State Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP, joined the Salvation Army’s Communities of Hope Coordinator, Major Bryce Davies, Channel Nine’s Jayne Azzopardi and lovable mascot “Big Red” at the School to seek donations and to reinforce the message about the importance of volunteering, particularly to assist less fortunate members of the local community.

“I was very impressed by the way that the girls at Ravenswood participated in the day so enthusiastically, as well as by their awareness of social justice issues and their strong desire to address them,“ Mr Henskens said.

“Their genuine concern, for example, for the homeless, for those struggling with substance abuse and for those who have been the victims of violence is reflected in the number that will be out door-knocking on the weekend.

Mr Henskens noted that, in 2016, $4,753,750 was raised across the country by the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock.

“I am proud of how the young people of Ku-ring-gai always welcome the opportunity to support worthy causes and there is no better example than the Red Shield Appeal. 

“It is not possible to overstate The Salvation Army’s contribution to Australians who are doing it tough,” Mr Henskens said.
