Community Consultation For Pacific Highway/Mona Vale Road Intersection

Pacific Hwy Plans at Pymble

Planning is progressing with the community consultation report now available for proposed improvements at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Mona Vale Road at Pymble.

Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC and Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said the NSW Government is funding this project as part of the $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s busiest road corridors.

“The proposed improvements would reduce congestion at this busy intersection by allowing motorists on the Pacific Highway northbound to move through the intersection more freely as well as improve traffic flow for motorists travelling eastbound from Pacific Highway onto Mona Vale Road,” Mr Henskens said.

“The improvements will also provide more capacity for traffic turning right from Pacific Highway onto Mona Vale Road and improve road safety for drivers turning left approaching Pacific Highway from Mona Vale Road.”

The proposed intersection improvements involve building an additional 70 metre right turn lane from Pacific Highway onto Mona Vale Road, providing a dedicated southbound left turn lane from Pacific Highway onto Mona Vale Road, adding a short lane to provide a dual right turn lane from Mona Vale Road northbound onto Pacific Highway with an additional shared right turn and through lane westbound onto Ryde Road and installing traffic lights at the U-turn from Mona Vale Road westbound onto Mona Vale Road eastbound.

Mr Henskens said, “The proposal also includes building a short right lane to provide a triple right turn lane from Mona Vale Road northbound onto Pacific Highway to improve traffic flow for motorists.”

He said Roads and Maritime invited comments on the proposed intersection improvements late last year and received submissions from eight people and one business

“The main comments received included the addition of pedestrian crossings, road safety, tree trimming, cyclist access and suggested alternative intersection improvements to the Pacific Highway, Mona Vale Road and Ryde Road,” Mr Henskens said.

“The community and stakeholders are thanked for taking the time to provide feedback. All comments and feedback provided by the community and stakeholders have been carefully considered and used to further develop the proposal,” he said.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea also invited the community to provide feedback on a proposal to carry out night work at the intersection.

“To minimise the impact to motorists, work on these essential improvements will be carried out in stages across a nine month period,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Work on the first stage of the improvements is proposed to be carried out for up to five nights a week for 12 weeks, weather permitting. Work will also be carried out during day time hours.

“The second stage of work will be carried out for 17 weeks and will include both day and night time work.

“Night work hours will be between 9pm and 5am, excluding Saturdays and public holidays, with noisier activities such as jack hammering completed by midnight to minimise the impact to residents and businesses.

Mr O’Dea said, “Day work hours will be from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.”

Work is expected to start in the second half of this year.

Feedback on the work schedule can be provided to the project delivery partner DownerMouchel within the next week by writing to DownerMouchel Mona Vale Road and Pacific Highway, PO Box 6465 North Ryde NSW 2113 or emailing [email protected].
