To celebrate the achievements of their students and their staff, public schools across Ku-ring-gai are this week holding showcase events for their communities, including open days, special assemblies, performances and exhibitions. 

State Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP, said the theme for the 65th Education Week, “Every Student, Every Voice”, is about ensuring that every child in NSW feels empowered to speak out about what they believe in.

“It is very important for children in our area to know that they will be supported when they have the courage to express their views about the things that matter to them. We want them to become informed and engaged citizens,” Mr Henskens said.

“Reminding students that they have a voice, are valued and are cared for will give them a sense of purpose that will prepare them to take influential roles in an increasingly dynamic society.”

Mr Henskens today took the opportunity to attend:

• Warrawee Public School’s Open Morning, which featured a parade of students dressed-up as their favourite book character (the teachers were in costume too); and
• Beaumont Road Public School, where parents kindly allowed him to participate in that school’s signature Student-Led Reporting sessions before he admired the skill and creativity on display at the School’s Art Show.

“Investing in our school children is an investment in our future,” said Mr Henskens “and Ku-ring-gai is blessed with the best schools in our nation that are giving their students the freedom to express themselves and the best possible start in life.”

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the NSW Government is investing more than ever before in the Education system.

“We are investing an unprecedented amount in NSW Education at the moment, and I am thrilled to be part of a Government providing incredible pathways and opportunities for students right across NSW,” Ms Mitchell said.

“This is more than just bricks and mortar; this is about lifting academic performance and making sure children are reaching their full potential at school.”

The NSW Government is rolling out a number of unprecedented initiatives currently, including:

• An expanded Bump it Up program, which is providing all schools in NSW with expanded targets in attendance, wellbeing, equity, numeracy and literacy;
• A $120 million program to ensure parents in NSW have access to Before and After School Care for their child;
• Delivering 190 new and upgraded schools through a $6.7 billion 4 year investment that will build 2000 new classrooms;
• A new High Potential and Gifted program to identify students who will benefit from being challenged in areas where they show talent.
