Helping Seniors With The Cost Of Living In Ku-ring-gai

Seniors Card

The NSW Government has secured a two-year deal with one of Australia’s biggest energy suppliers, creating savings of up to 25 per cent for seniors in Ku-ring-gai on their gas and electricity usage charges.

Minister for Ageing, Tanya Davies, recently announced the renewed commitment from energy retailer AGL, which will begin offering new discounts to NSW Seniors Card members from July 1.

Alister Henskens SC MP said the NSW Government had been working hard to secure these competitive discounts for seniors in Ku-ring-gai.

“Older people have worked hard all their lives and given so much to their communities, so I am both thrilled and proud to be able to deliver the renewal of a partnership that eases the cost of living pressures for them,” Mr Henskens said.

From 1 July, AGL will offer Seniors Card members a 25 per cent guaranteed discount off electricity usage and 19 per cent guaranteed discount off gas usage charges on a two year energy plan.

“Given we are now well and truly into winter, the timing of this renewal could not be better. We know every dollar counts for seniors,” said Mr Henskens.

“Ku-ring-gai functions better and is more inclusive and effective, thanks to the contributions made by older people. When they are active and involved in community life, everyone benefits,” Mr Henskens said.

More than 1.5 million older people in NSW have a Seniors Card. More than 5600 businesses now offer Seniors Card discounts, up from 1600 in January 2015.
