Honouring our Veterans

War memorial park gates

The service and sacrifice of both our current and former military servicemen and women cannot be underestimated. Each year around 1,200 veterans transition into NSW communities from the Defence Force. Understanding their efforts, past and present, supporting them during and after their service, and honouring them with dignity and respect is essential.

Our area has a rich history of citizens performing military service commencing with the First World War. There are many War Memorials and Honour Boards remembering those who have served our country.  Each ANZAC Day several local remembrance services are led by our Scouts and Guides with the Nashos (National Servicemen’s Association).

The ANZAC Community Grants Program recognises projects which commemorate or educate the community about the vital contribution of veterans. The Program also recognises projects which support activities benefiting the NSW veteran community.

The ANZAC Community Grants Program is now open for applications. Applications are open to individuals and not-for-profit organisations, including ex‑service organisations, local government authorities, non‑government organisations and educational institutions.

Grants cover four categories: local community historical research and education, preservation or display of war memorabilia, public commemorative events, arts and culture, and providing support to members of the NSW veteran community.

It is an opportunity to get grassroots projects off the ground and to enhance or complete those that already exist.

In 2020, 42 projects shared $50,000 of funding from the Program for a range of purposes including the construction of memorabilia cabinetry, establishment or maintenance of remembrance gardens, online and hands‑on educational experiences, and accredited training for veterans.

Grants of up to $2,000 per individual or organisation are available and applications close on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2021. For more information or to apply visit
