A parliamentary inquiry into workplace arrangements for the point to point transport industry in NSW is underway, Ku-ring-gai MP Alister Henskens SC, Chair of the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, announced today.

Point to point travel is conducted by taxis, tourist services, community transport, hire cars and ride-share services – such as Uber – which take customers on a route and at a time of their choice.

"The Committee is now calling for public submissions on workplace arrangements in the point to point transport industry, with recommendations on work conditions, remuneration, safety and competitiveness across the industry," Mr Henskens said.

The inquiry commenced following a referral from Transport Minister Andrew Constance MP, who on 2 June 2016 introduced the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire Vehicles) Bill 2016 which seeks to address the future sustainability of taxis, hire cars and other emerging point to point transport providers.

"The inquiry will specifically focus on contract arrangements for point to point industry operators, and how to modernise and better regulate across the industry," Mr Henskens said.

The Committee is currently seeking written submissions, with a closing date of Friday, 8 July 2016 and will hold public hearings at the end of July.
