Students from Turramurra High School will attend the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 next month, enjoying the benefits of workshops on adaptive sports and inspirational insights from competitors.

 The excursion will complement school curriculum materials created for public school students which will explore the central themes of inclusion, resilience, service and the healing power of sport.

 Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP, said the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will highlight the ability of wounded, injured and ill defence personnel and veterans.

 “This is a unique educational opportunity for Turramurra High School students,” Mr Henskens said.

 “They will now have the opportunity to cheer on Invictus athletes, admire their athletic prowess and gain a deeper understanding of the healing power of sport.”

 Minister for Veterans Affairs, David Elliott, said almost 200 public schools have signed up for the unique experience, ensuring that communities from across the State are sharing in the Invictus spirit.

 “One of the most exciting things for a student is when the classroom comes to life and that’s exactly what they will see when competitors from 18 nations compete in sports such as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair rugby and indoor rowing,” Mr Elliott said.

 Invictus Games Sydney 2018 CEO Patrick Kidd OBE is looking forward to welcoming the students from across the State to the Games.

 “This is a fantastic opportunity for young Australians to learn about the courage within our community, the importance of being resilient and the healing power of sport,” Mr Kidd said.

 The Invictus Games will be held in Sydney from 20-27 October.
