Life-Saving Equipment For Local Sports Clubs

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Four sports clubs in the Ku-ring-gai Electorate will receive funding from the NSW Government towards the purchase of life-saving technology to assist people experiencing cardiac emergencies.

Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP, said the clubs (Ku-ring-gai Little Athletics, North Turramurra Football Club, Knox United Football Club and Sunset Soaring Club) had been successful in securing grant funding towards the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as part of the Local Sports Defibrillator Program.

“Sport is vital part of the Ku-ring-gai community’s social fabric and it is imperative to make sport as safe as possible,” Mr Henskens said.

“Having access to a defibrillator in the first eight minutes after a cardiac arrest is vital to give people the best chances of survival. It is critical that our local sport and recreation facilities are equipped with this life-saving equipment so, with Round 3 now open, I recommend that all the clubs in our area apply to this grant program.”

Clubs receive 50 per cent towards the funding and maintenance of a defibrillator Since the commencement of the four-year $4 million program in 2017, the NSW government has provided $985,000 to assist with the purchase of 780 defibrillators for sport and recreation facilities.

Applications for Round 3 of the program will remain open until 6 May 2019. Half a million dollars in funding is available and applications will be assessed monthly so sports clubs are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the best chance of securing a grant.
