Public transport customers who park at Gordon Station are now benefiting from new Opal Park & Ride technology.

Opal Park & Ride is a trial designed to provide more spaces at commuter car parks for customers who wish to travel on public transport, regardless of what time they enter the car park. It provides those customers up to 18 hours free parking when they tap-on and tap-off on public transport with their Opal card.

The trial started at the B-Line commuter car park at Dee Why last January and has so far been extended to include other facilities at Brookvale, Mona Vale, Warriewood and Narrabeen, as well as Seven Hills, Ashfield and Kogarah stations.

“The NSW Government developed the Opal Park & Ride trial after studies showed that, in some areas, as many as 46 percent of commuter car parking spaces were being used by people who weren’t catching public transport,” said State Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP.

“We know that some customers need to drive to their nearest train station before continuing their journey and this trial will ensure that commuter car spaces are being used by public transport customers.”

The commuter car park where Park & Ride is being trialled at Gordon Station is under the interchange on Henry Street. Transport for NSW will consider expanding the trial to other commuter car parks at Gordon Station in the future.

Customers will be able to use their Opal card to exit the car park for free if they have used that same card to tap-on and tap-off on a public transport service, and they have parked for less than 18 hours. 

Those who do not qualify for free parking will be charged $30 on weekdays and $10 on weekends.
