Promoting Wellbeing in Families and School Communities

The importance of looking after ourselves and each other has only become more acute in recent times. The NSW Government has been providing wraparound support for school communities, targeting the wellbeing of students, educators and staff, and parents and carers.

The Connect and Care Hub delivers practical and targeted resources for different age groups, from preschool to the end of high school, as well as for those who educate and care for them. Additionally students have access to over 3,000 non-teaching staff including school counsellors, school psychologists, student support officers and a network of specialist facilitators, wellbeing nurses, school chaplains and school learning support officers.

The NSW Government has implemented a specialised mental health program called, ‘Being Well’ and introduced a series of wellbeing check-ins to support educators and staff.

There are additional resources available through the mental health and wellbeing hub, the COVID-19 wellbeing page and wellbeing sessions for different age groups in primary and secondary school are available here.

Students and children are also able to take advantage of the friends bubble, providing a welcome social connection for recreation or study that balances COVID-19 safety with mental health and wellbeing. Details are available here.

Families can enjoy daily fun COVID safe activities offered through a NSW Government initiative Family Project. There are a variety of ideas including rock art, backyard movies, gardening and meditation that promote connections will support both mental and physical health.
