Respite Services To Continue At Richard Geeves Centre

Richard Geeves Centre, North Turramurra

NSW Health has confirmed respite services will continue at the Richard Geeves Centre at North Turramurra.

Member for Ku-ring-gai, Alister Henskens SC MP, said he was happy to hear that essential respite care for dementia patients will be continue to be provided by HammondCare.

“For 30 years, the Richard Geeves Centre has been providing care for patients with dementia, allowing their loved ones some much needed respite, thus allowing elderly people to stay at home for longer,” Mr Henskens said.

“The current lease for the Richard Geeves Centre has been extended until December to allow HammondCare and NSW Health to negotiate the sale of the property.

“With care provided for up to 20 patients per day, I have always stood up for the importance of the Centre to our community.

“I am informed that, if the negotiations are not completed by December 2019, the lease can be extended further to ensure that there is no impact to the provision of respite services from the Centre.

“This is a very good outcome for the patients and their carers, who all very much value the services provided by the highly skilled staff and volunteers at the Centre.”
