Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (18:22): Last week, more than 20,000 morning teas were held across the country, raising more than $6.5 million for the Cancer Council as part of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. One of the most inspirational of those was the extraordinary effort of Amelia R, a year 6 student from class 6A at Thornleigh West Public School. Amelia is a compassionate and driven young leader with a deep commitment to community service. Motivated to take action after witnessing a family member's battle with cancer, Amelia took the initiative to research Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, create a presentation and pitch the idea of hosting a morning tea to the school principal, Mr Hubbert, who immediately supported Amelia. The morning tea was held last Wednesday, and Amelia raised over $5,000 for cancer research. Amelia drove every part of the morning tea, creating posters, sending emails to the school community and working through a checklist to ensure the event ran smoothly. Well done to Amelia.
