Computer Pals for Seniors Turramurra

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (18:26): Computer Pals for Seniors Turramurra is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. What started with a small notice in The North Shore Times resulted in 30 people attending their first meeting in Turramurra Library. By November 2000, Computer Pals for Seniors Turramurra was formed. The idea for Computer Pals was to teach seniors how to use computers, because in the early 2000s many senior members of my community did not have much experience with them. The group focused initially on the basics and then moved to more complex issues. The club has been built off the back of generous volunteers, who believed in the importance of this group to our community. I acknowledge the current committee, including Ku-ring-gai Local Citizen of the Year, World War II veteran and president Dean Simes, who is 102 years old; vice-president Dorothy Soper; treasurer John Sildever; secretary Bill Soper; John Cameron; Jim Cochrane; and Margaret Longstaff. I also acknowledge volunteers Peter Turnbull, Ken Doyle, Roy Sim, Margaret Ball, Di Green, Margot Gerhan, Norma Kelly, Kay Carter, Gerald Neville, Betty Millar, Phil Sim, Terry Maude, Tony Kelly, Ken Tribe, Patrick Bohr and John Richardson. I extend my congratulations to Computer Pals.
