Those who are recognised have demonstrated outstanding qualities and made exceptional contributions to their community and our nation. In my own electorate of Wahroonga, Emeritus Professor Peter Hayden Curson of Pymble OAM was awarded an Honorary Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to tertiary education. He is a Professor of Population and Security at University of Sydney. Professor Curson is a medical geographer, having attained degrees from the Universities of Auckland and Tasmania. His background is in population studies, demography, geography and public health. He is a Former Head of the School of Earth Sciences and Dean of the Division of Environmental and Life Sciences at Macquarie University; and a former Director of Macquarie University's Health Studies Program. He has authored many books and media articles in Australia and New Zealand. He has a particular understanding of epidemic crises and community responses to pandemics. I congratulate Professor Curson on his recognition in this years Australia Day Honours List.
