GoodSAM

GoodSAM

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (18:22): Today I speak about a program called GoodSAM, which is quite literally saving lives across our State. Each year more than 9,000 people in New South Wales experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Every minute without CPR reduces their chance of survival by up to 10 per cent. That is why in 2013 the former Liberal Government, through NSW Ambulance, partnered with the GoodSAM app to make it available in New South Wales. It is a simple, free tool that alerts trained volunteers when someone nearby is in cardiac arrest. The program is already making a profound impact. More than 13,500 people have registered as responders, contributing to at least 30 lives saved, with 12 of those saved thanks to automated external defibrillators being used before paramedics arrived. The integration of over 4,300 publicly registered defibrillators into the app means responders can now be guided straight to lifesaving equipment in moments that matter most. Download the GoodSAM app and become a volunteer.
