Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District Rural Fire Service
Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Ku-ring-gai—Minister for Skills and Training, Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade, and Minister for Sport) (15:50): The Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District Rural Fire Service supports my local community and communities across New South Wales. The Ku-ring-gai electorate is serviced by three brigades within the district, including the Ku-ring-gai, Killara and Hornsby brigades. During the 2019-20 bushfire emergency, members of the district played an integral part in the firefighting response. On 1 May I was privileged to be invited to the 2022 Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai district group east medal presentation ceremony, where members received a National Emergency Medal and a Commissioner's Certificate of Commendation. The National Emergency Medal is awarded to those who have rendered substantial or significant service during nationally significant emergencies in Australia. The Commissioner's Certificate for Commendation recognises service or outstanding action in relation to fire service duties, administrative leadership or exemplary performance of a specific task. I commend district manager Superintendent Mark Sugden and all members and volunteers for their well-deserved recognition and critical service to communities across New South Wales.
