Ku-ring-gai Rotary Club

Ku-ring-gai Rotary Club members teaching CPR

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Ku-ring-gai—Minister for Skills and Training, and Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology) (16:58): On 4 December I joined the Rotary Club of Ku‑ring‑gai at West Pymble shopping mall for the official launch of a lifesaving defibrillator, which the club donated to the West Pymble community. I met IGA owner Tony Aglio, who generously agreed to host the lifesaving device in his shop. I also spoke to Northside Radio. Rotarian John Aitken gave demonstrations of how to use the device, which we all found highly informative. Events like that one are important because they build on existing links with the community, illustrate Rotary in action and encourage locals to participate in projects and join the club. I hope nobody will ever need to use the device, but I am pleased that it is now available in a local shopping mall that many members of my local community attend. I acknowledge the Rotary Club of Ku‑ring‑gai and President John Hepburn; IGA owner Tony Aglio; Rotarian John Aitken, who gave demonstrations of how to use the device; the local shopkeepers who donated items for the barbeque; and our local community who came out to support the event.
