Wahroonga Electorate Allied Health Professionals

Health professional bandaging a patient's wrist

Mr ALISTER HENSKENS (Wahroonga) (17:54): Allied health professionals are a critical part of the healthcare workforce, enabling patients to walk, talk and eat, and to get therapy and tests that support them in achieving good health and discharged from hospital. The Wahroonga electorate is home to many allied health professionals, including Joanne from Westleigh. Joanne plays an essential role in delivering positive health outcomes for people in the community. I recognise and commend Joanne for 23 years of service to NSW Health and I commend all allied health professionals in the local and broader community. Joanne contacted my office in the hope that the New South Wales Labor Government reflects this sentiment through real action. The allied health workforce has been overlooked in the Labor Government's wage offer of a flat $3,500 to all health workers. Joanne will only gain a 2.5 per cent wage increase, significantly below the 4 per cent offered to all other public sector workers. Joanne only works part time, which makes matters worse. I call on the Labor Government to properly recognise allied health professionals like Joanne.
